Transfigured into something vast and ungovernable, Sedna descended to the bottom of the sea and became its ruler, often described as the Sea Mother or Mistress of Marine Animals.
From the depths, she governs abundance, famine, storms, survival, and humanity’s relationship to nature itself. Hunters would spiritually appease Sedna before traveling across the water because she controlled whether the sea would provide or withhold life. Her symbolism is tied to dissociation, silence, and the psychic cost of survival. Sedna often appears where there has been a severing from the body as a result of trauma.
