Inside The Chart Of Josephine Chumley

Josephine is the kind of girl who could model a dress, design it, and forge the hardware to hold it together—literally. A multidimensional creative and ambidextrous Gemini, Josephine moves between softness and strength with the kind of grace that can’t be taught. She welds, sews, makes jewelry, and still somehow manages to look like a Renaissance painting while doing it.

You’ve probably seen her image somewhere—brooding from a billboard on Sunset or modeling the dress you impulse-bought at H. Lorenzo. But behind the high-fashion mystique is someone who’s disarmingly playful, with a wardrobe that channels everything from Victorian pirate girl to early-aughts Olsen twin. A trained designer, reseller and experienced stylist, Josephine doesn’t just create beauty—she builds it, piece by piece. In an era of fast content and disposable aesthetics, she reminds us that craft is a love language. She’s also a trained dancer, with the stamina of a ballerina and the discipline of an athlete. If she wanted to, she could easily join the ranks of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders—as a refreshing alt addition. I attribute this to a trine between Mars and Venus, suggesting a harmonious flow between her physical drive and her innate sense of beauty. There’s a quiet strength in that alignment—a balance between softness and assertion. While you might not glean all of this from a photo alone, her androgynous appearance leaves a lasting impression: striking, unexpected, and impossibly cool.

We caught up with Josephine to talk LA, chemistry, creative rituals, neopets and why her dream date might involve a blowtorch.

Stars Align: Do you feel more like your Sun, your Rising, or your Venus when you're getting dressed?

Josephine: I think my Aquarius takes the lead when I’m getting dressed. I always want my outfit to be unique, even if it’s just sweatpants and a T-shirt. And I hate wearing the same thing twice.

Stars Align: You’re an Aquarius rising—were you good with tech as a kid?

Josephine: Honestly, I was better with tech as a kid than I am now. I mined a Bitcoin when I was twelve and was coding people’s MySpace layouts. I basically taught myself how to code on Neopets. I was a very online child.

Stars Align: You’ve got a lot of Virgo placements—do you see yourself as a caretaker?

Josephine: Definitely. I take on that role in friendships a lot, and I’ve always been a cat mom. Taking care of things makes me feel grounded. But I’ve had to learn to care for myself too, so I can show up better for others.

Stars Align: What's the first thing you notice about someone?

Josephine: Their energy.

Stars Align: Favorite scent?Victoria’s Secret Pink Warm & Cozy and sunscreen.

Stars Align: Is there a character whose style shaped you as a kid?

Josephine: Mary-Kate and Ashley. I was obsessed—the movies, the books, and their clothing line at Walmart was insanely good.

Stars Align: Favorite movie?

Josephine: South Pacific.

Stars Align: Can’t leave the house without?

Josephine: My vape.

Stars Align: What do you love about LA?

Josephine: You can just go outside and look at a palm tree. If you’re sad, go outside—it’s so beautiful. The energy here is what makes it special. People are excited about what everyone else is doing.

Stars Align: What don’t you love about LA?

Josephine: That the people care more than the city does. I wish we had better infrastructure and less corruption.

Stars Align: Where did you study fashion?

Josephine: SAIC for my BFA in Art and Design, then FIDM for Apparel Industry Management.

Stars Align: Current favorite designer?

Josephine: Claire Sullivan. I loved the pink polka dot look she did for Addison Rae at Coachella.

Stars Align: You’ve casted some big campaigns. What do you look for in a model?

Josephine: It’s energy, not looks. Anyone can look cool, but if they don’t bring the right energy, it won’t photograph well.

Stars Align: Morning routine?

Josephine: Alarms every 30 mins from 7:30–9am while I scroll and try to wake up. Then: Trader Joe’s instant coffee with collagen and hella creamer, a spliff, supplements, yogurt, skincare, sunblock, cat feeding, and a long walk.

Stars Align: What do people underestimate about you?

Josephine: That I’m chill. People assume I’m standoffish because of my resting sad face, but I just get overwhelmed in big groups.

Stars Align: Which medium feels most like you—welding, sewing, or jewelry?

Josephine: I don’t have a particular medium that I am passionate about… I enjoy all of them. But what I am passionate about is sustainability, and using second hand materials. In every medium I try to use as little new materials as possible. I even go so far as to source my machines and notions and tools second hand as well, even storage bins. If I can get it second hand I will.

Stars Align: What does making something by hand teach you about love?

Josephine: Patience and commitment.

Stars Align: Do you feel different wearing clothes you made yourself?

Josephine: It means way more when someone compliments a piece I made—especially if they don’t know I made it.

Stars Align: What’s your relationship to beauty—do you chase it, challenge it, or channel it?

Josephine: I think I’m a channel for it. I never saw myself as beautiful until people told me I was. To me, beauty is authenticity. Hopefully, that’s what people see in me.

Stars Align: Most important energy on a date?Josephine: Enthusiasm. If you’re not excited to be there, why are we doing this?

Stars Align: Favorite LA date spot?

Josephine: Edendale or that oyster place by the Silverlake Reservoir.

Stars Align: Weekend vintage go-to?

Josephine: The $1 pile at Jet Rag.

Stars Align: What kind of partner makes you feel the most creative?

Josephine: Someone who believes in my vision and gives me space to do my thing.

Stars Align: Would you rather be adored quietly or desired loudly?

Josephine: A little bit of both, maybe?

Stars Align: Favorite part of modeling?

Josephine: The adrenaline—it’s like a live performance.

Stars Align: Least favorite part?

Josephine: Tiny outfits in freezing places.

Stars Align: What does alignment feel like in a relationship?

Josephine: It’s about trust and communication. If you’re both being honest, you’ll know if you’re in alignment.

Stars Align: Best trip you’ve ever taken?

Josephine: A study abroad in Italy when I was 17. I still think about that trip all the time. I recommend study trips to anyone, even if you’ve already graduated.

Stars Align: If your dating history had an aesthetic, what would it be?

Josephine: That meme of a Silverlake guy… except nonbinary. LMAO.

Stars Align: You seem to have really paranormal luck when it comes to thrifting/finding things. How do you manifest treasures at stores? Is it intentional or accidental?

Josephine: I believe my “luck” in regards to thrifting comes from knowledge. I have been thrifting for so long, I know what a nice fabric looks and feels like, I can spot good construction details a mile away etc at this point I don’t even worry whether there will be something good at the goodwill or wherever, I know there will be as long as I look for it. I find soooo many good things everywhere that I literally constantly have to have closet sales. You can find me on depop! Click here!
