Inside The Chart Of Harper Cullen

Some people dress for the job they want. Harper Cullen dresses for a month-long stay at The Plaza Hotel.
Her Someday dream dresses give coquette-pin-up-polka-dot-ballerina-princess..but it’s her personality that delivers the finishing touches: edge, mischief, and the good kind of chaos that can only be found in a forbidden costume closet.
As an actress, writer, director and designer, Harper isn’t just crafting clothes—she’s conjuring characters, telling stories, and dressing for the version of reality that should exist.
Harper is obviously a Gemini: quick-witted, animated, and—above all things—fun. Like all true Geminis, she carries the air of eternal youth, as if she belongs to a magical realm of perpetual adolescence. A place alluded to in the myths of the Irish Otherworld, or captured in the hazy, pastel rebellion of a Sofia Coppola film. And in doing so, she seems to restore our imagination—reminding us that play isn’t something we’re meant to grow out of, but something we’re meant to return to.
Always questioning, always learning, always eager to experience something for the first time. She’s a stylish seeker in a state of ambidextrous, rebellious curiosity. Doing two things at once.
There’s a cultural myth that Geminis are duplicitous or dishonest—but let me clarify: nothing could be further from the truth. Geminis, especially in Harper’s case, are obsessed with the truth. Not the polished, pre-approved version—but the kind you have to track down, cross-reference and prod at-- until it finally reveals itself.
Harper, for all intensive purposes, is a “human-lie-detector”- a title I gave her thanks to the overwhelming influence of Pluto in her chart. Pluto, the planet of power, investigation, sexuality, crisis, and renewal, appears as the first character on her planetary stage. It’s this archetype that infuses her with a natural x-ray vision for subtext, contradiction, and the things people would rather keep hidden. She doesn’t just sense the truth—she extracts it, with the wisdom of someone who’s navigated the underworld herself, and reemerged to tell the tale.
Pluto gives Harper superpowers: the gift of renewal (from having lived eight lives in one), the gift of depth, and the gift of knowing exactly how to show up in a crisis.
Of course, there’s a softer hue that brightens all that underworld excavation. Harper’s Venus is conjunct her Moon in Taurus. Harper doesn’t just embody style, she curates it, collecting vintage pieces like emotional heirlooms, each with a story to tell. This is potentially a past life gift, as her adoration of old things appears in her birth chart, with her Venus conjunct her South Node (the soul’s previous learnings). Her world is stitched together with texture: silk, velvet, tulle, lace—each fabric chosen with intention, memory, and meaning. There’s something unmistakably maternal about her energy, not in a traditional sense, but in the way she rescues her friends, nurtures her collaborators, and creates environments that feel like home.
This rich inner landscape shines through her writing, acting, and clothes—because no fairy tale is complete without its plot twists, scenic backdrops, and the allies (and occasional opps) procured along the way… often just from being too honest.
We sat down with Harper to talk fairy tales, emotional heirlooms, the sacred art of playing dress-up, and why honesty is magic.
Stars Align: I want to ask you about your Venus conjunct Moon (which gives you an intuitive relationship to aesthetics) and how your mother influenced your taste.
Harper Cullen: Honestly, my mom has everything to do with my taste. I remember as a little kid, my mom would take me to Fred Segal for lunch, and I would watch her try on clothes and she would let me pick out beads. They had this kid section—or at least from what I remember, it was for kids—where you could pick out beads and make your own jewelry. Like me, my mom loves “the finer things in life,” so to speak.
My mom was a child of the ’70s. She had me a little later in life. Growing up hearing her stories, seeing photos of her hanging out with guys in platform boots and tall top hats—I don’t know—I envied that.In the ’70s, fashion was super big and loud, but I also love the elements of adding Victorian blouses and Victorian jewelry to the mix. My mom was really into Romeo and Juliet, she had long hair and wore a lot of platform shoes with a pink silk Victorian bed jacket—this was something I quickly copied and pasted into my vibe starting in my junior year of high school.I love vintage, but I also love couture. A good mix of both creates such a fun aesthetic. Of course, recently everything is very much back to the 2010s—which is fun because that was the year I really discovered vintage, so playing with that era too has been sweet.
Stars Align: What do you remember about your taste as a little girl? Do you feel like you were born with a highly developed understanding of what you liked—and what you didn’t?
Harper Cullen: I’ve always known what I don’t like and what I do like. Pink tutus have always been a staple piece in my closet.
Stars Align: Let’s talk about Someday. Where did you get the inspiration?
Harper Cullen: Honestly, it all happened because I found a vintage piece on Pinterest that I loved and couldn’t find anywhere, so I was like, why don’t I just f*cking make one and make it my own? One of the best things about vintage is how well made everything is.I wanted to make something well made, something personal to the buyer—we embroider the buyer’s name into each dress, so it’s unique like vintage clothes, and comfortable all at once. The piece I found online was a vintage 1930s circus performer outfit, and I became obsessed with that. The main things that inspire the clothes I wear and want Someday to exude usually come from movies, the book Eloise at the Plaza, Gwen Stefani’s Love Angel Music Baby album, 1930’s circus performers, Marie Antoinette, and so many more problematic things.
Stars Align: Can you tell me a bit about the process involved in making them?
Harper Cullen: I have a dressmaker, whom I love. I source the fabric—I love using deadstock vintage fabrics or basically any sickening taffeta I can find, raw silk, etc.I buy the twill and the boning for the body part of the dress, then I take it to my dressmaker and he usually takes 1–2 weeks to make one dress. Then I take it to my embroiderer and she puts in the buyer’s name. Really riveting, I know.
Stars Align: What heirlooms or items in your home are you the most attached to?
Harper Cullen: Well first of all, my baby blanket, named Night Night. And then this vintage powder case my mom gave me—she used to take it on all her auditions and said it was her good luck charm. I’m trying to think what else…I’ve said “vintage” too much. I have this awesome wood mid-century console that’s kind of giving drug dealer vibes, and I would be devastated to lose it because it’s so cool and it was only $500 on Facebook Marketplace. I live for a steal.
Stars Align: Talk to me about your written projects. I feel like you hold a lot of empathy for girls caught in the space between womanhood and girlhood. I’ve seen these motifs in a lot of your work. Where do you find what to write about?
Harper Cullen: I had a really hard time growing up. I am still having a hard time! I’m always thinking about me as a kindergartener. What would she think? What would she do? Would I be different if those bad things didn’t happen? I’m fascinated by women. I have a short film coming out soon, based on a friendship dynamic I had on and off in my twenties. It was bananas but taught me—mom’s intuition is always right.
Stars Align: What are you currently working on?
Harper Cullen: I don’t wanna jinx anything but… think Girl, Interrupted, but make it 2025. I’ve been working on this for about three years now and really hope it actually gets made.
Stars Align: You’re a Scorpio rising. When was the last time you caught someone in a lie?
Harper Cullen: Today. Like, an hour ago.
Stars Align: How do you let go of resentment?
Harper Cullen: Doing a fourth step. Praying for them. If you know, you know.
Stars Align: Do you feel like you can read people well?
Harper Cullen: Oh big time! Like literally instantly. My boyfriend laughs whenever I’m like, “I know you’re thinking blank because of blank and you’re going to blank!” Because I am never, NEVER wrong.
Stars Align: Are there any misconceptions about Geminis that you’d like to clear up?
Harper Cullen: We're not all fake. I will tell you how it is, no problemo.
Stars Align: I often think about how Geminis sort of live in the idea realm—they’re great at starting a million projects at once, but sometimes have a hard time seeing them through. Do you have any advice for staying motivated?
Harper Cullen: Get a day planner. Writing things down and keeping a schedule is super important for me. Checklists!!! Stay inspired by engaging with other people who want the same things. Don’t hang out with people who are not hustling. Ew.
Stars Align: You have an 8th House Sun, which is the sector of the sky that rules constant transformation—intimacy, intensity, and depth. This is kind of the opposite of what your Moon in Taurus wants—which is predictability. What was the last big transformation you made?
Harper Cullen: A couple things. I think letting go of needing approval from others. I had a mass cancellation situation a couple years ago that kind of forced me to let go. It felt awesome.Sometimes I wish I was still canceled. No more drama. When I miss it, I call people and just ask for the tea. So fun. Also, in my relationship, my current boyfriend taught me a lot of patience and taking things slow. It was hard at first but was the best thing for us. I admire him so much for putting up with me and being a good example of a healthy relationship.
Stars Align: Do you believe in soul contracts? Karmic connections? Do certain people feel… familiar?
Harper Cullen: Yeah, I feel that way with probably any friend I’ve had that was an unhealthy enmeshment.
Stars Align: Least favorite sign to date? Most favorite?
Harper Cullen: Least fave… Aries or Leo. Or Sag.Fave—Cancer. My boyfriend, Max, is a Cancer. I’m obsessed. Virgos are cool too.
Stars Align: Last successful prank you pulled?
Harper Cullen: This isn’t my best work, but I told my dad Meryl Streep died.
Stars Align: Have you had any psychic experiences? Ever seen a ghost?
Harper Cullen: There’s a ghost in my parents’ house that I don’t see, but I’ve felt him since I was a little girl. He doesn’t scare me anymore. I think he protects me—because when I still lived there, any guy who slept over would say they woke up unable to move at 3am. I think he was like, “Who the f*** are you?”
I also have psychic experiences where I’ll say something is going to happen and it does.
And one time, I was at Urth Caffé and this guy who looked homeless was like, “Are you Harper Cullen?” and I was like, “Um… yes?” And he starts to walk away and I’m like, “Wait, how did you know?” And he goes, “From a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend…” I don’t know if he was psychic. Maybe he was a time traveler. Who knows.
Stars Align: Do you feel like people open up to you really quickly? Like they’re compelled to tell you things they wouldn’t usually share?
Harper Cullen: Big time. It’s awesome. So much gross!
Stars Align: Favorite beauty products?
Harper Cullen: Wow, such a hard question. I’m addicted to perfume—I love Tam Dao from Diptyque and Comme Incense Avignon Series 3.I love Osea body oil and any body lotion from L’Occitane.Makeup I’m into right now… Rhode lip balm in vanilla. The One/Size setting spray is incredible. Haus Labs has great foundation. Big fan of Saie, Westman Atelier, and of course Merit. I love the Dior blushes too—uh oh, I can go on forever. I’ll stop now. Wait—I love the Gucci lipsticks. And Makeup Forever or MAC for lip liners. Okay, really stopping now.
Stars Align: What grosses you out?
Harper Cullen: Ear wax. Dirty sheets (wash your sheets every week, people—we are adults now). When I can tell you don’t floss. Long toenails. Long fingernails on men.
Stars Align: Talk me through dating in Los Angeles. How has it been?
Harper Cullen: My boyfriend and I love getting dressed up and going to the San Gabriel Valley for really good, really cheap Chinese food. We love random adventures. Then maybe we get ice cream and go home and I have alone time, either in the bath or watching true crime. Need.
Stars Align: Any funny date stories?
Harper Cullen: One time a guy wore flip-flops on a date and I immediately knew this was not going to work. Also, one time one of my exes and I were in a fight, and he went insane and got my name shaved into the side of his head. That really weirded me out.
Stars Align: Last letter or note you wrote by hand?
Harper Cullen: Actually, to one of my customers—thanking her for supporting me.
Stars Align: What do you find the most stimulating or interesting right now? (A book, a show, a weird neighbor?)
Harper Cullen: Writing. Chain-smoking while drinking Red Bull. Trying on my clothes.
